International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, wherever you are in this wonderful world. Today’s post is a slightly serious one. Today is IDAHBT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia). Here at VPGamersUK, we would just like to say that we fully support this day. Not only that, but we fully support YOU. We support everyone, no matter their sexuality, race, gender, religion, , disability, age, or anything else that can make us different. YOU have the right to be YOU in this world, and we support YOU.
I know that we may lose followers, lose views, lose people who want to be involved in our site and the community, but days like these are where you show your stance. I can firmly say, that as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, we FULLY SUPPORT IT.
Down below we have some questions which we asked members of the LGBTQ+ community.
VPGamersUK: How is life different for you where you live being a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
@scionjay96: To be honest where I live I feel so safe that I am shocked when I encounter any homophobia. I feel comfortable being myself but it wasn’t always that way. I have lived in other places that definitely made me feel like I needed to have my guard up and be more aware of my surroundings.
VPGamersUK: Do you feel included within the VP community?
@MSTakesPictures: I suppose. I’m not sure I feel like I’ve had too much interaction. I’ll say I haven’t felt unwelcome.
VPGamersUK: How have you found the support and friendliness of the VP community regarding the LGBTQ+ community?
@scionjay96: The VP community is amazing. It has been judgment-free the whole time I’ve been a part of it. We are all here for the art of photography in our favorite games. I have never once felt judged, only supported and just love. It’s my favorite place to be online.
VPGamersUK: Do you notice any forms of prejudice towards members of the LGBTQ+ community?
@MSTakesPhotos: Well, there was the whole implosion with the guy who co-owned the strong women gaming twitter but that kinda took care of itself. I can’t say I’ve noticed any prejudice but I also can’t say I’ve interacted with too much outside of pictures. I thought it was very comforting to see the overwhelming response to the incident I mentioned earlier, which gave me some faith. I admit I have a tendency to type “trans” into people’s search bars before following them. 9 times out of 10, it doesn’t produce any results, but it has a few times and in those cases it was negative. Older posts, but ones that made me go “you know, I’m not going to follow this guy.” Like one time where it came back with someone supporting JK Rowling in the last year. I’m not trans myself, but I tend to find that a pretty good indicator of who I do or do not want to interact with given that trans people seem to be the most acceptable target. I do think it would be nice to see some more trans-inclusive messages around, but I don’t know if that’s just something I don’t see because of algorithms or not looking in the right places or what. Because even if I’m not trans, I don’t care to be in any supposedly LGBTQ+ inclusive space that then tosses them out the window.
At VPGamersUK, we support people who are, gay, bisexual, lesbian, trans, and all members of the LGBTQ+ community. We support you no matter your race, your gender, your disability, your sexuality, your faith, your age, or your nationality.
WE SUPPORT YOU ALL.
